REx

REx is a multidisciplinary artist from Kingston, Jamaica, making honest, genre-bending musix that carries stories of ache, wonder, and becoming. Raised in a musixal family, REx started playing piano at five and began writing songs at twelve, absorbing the dynamic polyrhythms of reggae, Afro-Caribbean folk musix, and dancehall along the way. That upbringing gives REx’s musix its shape.

Heartbreak runs through almost everything REx writes, not just the romantic kind, but the ache of being misunderstood, including the experience of navigating neurodivergence and other differences the world'''s not always make room for. REx’s melodic choices and vocal layering draw influence from Twenty One Pilots, Billie Eilish, Moses Summey, and Mortimer.

For REx, musix has never been optional. It is survival, described simply as what keeps her alive. That urgency feeds a bigger purpose: showing what it looks like to disrupt societal norms through authenticity, without needing to be liked. It took real courage to get here, to trust that her voice matters and was never too much to share. REx makes musix now for her younger self, and for the next generation of artists coming up behind her, who deserve someone to look up to. REx wants fashion and dance to sit alongside her sound as core parts of her identity, leaning completely into fluid self-expression and helping to dismantle rigid expectations of identity and art in Jamaica and the Caribbean at large.
